How to Play Block Puzzle
Drag blocks, fill lines, clear the board. Zen plus strategy.
Block Puzzle is a calm placement game on a 10 by 10 grid. Three pieces sit in a tray below the board; drag each onto the grid, and any full row or column clears. There is no timer and no gravity, so the only way to lose is to run out of room for the pieces you are holding.
The version here adds a Daily Challenge with the same piece order for everyone, a one-move undo, a hint that finds a legal placement, a single revive per run, and themes that unlock as you beat personal bests. It is meant for a few relaxed minutes but rewards genuine planning.
Controls
- Press and hold a piece in the tray, drag it onto the grid, release to place.
- The piece lifts above your finger so you can see the ghost outline; green means it fits, red means it does not.
- Undo restores the board to just before your last placement.
- Hint flashes a spot where one of your pieces fits.
- Mouse drag works on desktop; there are no rotation controls because pieces never rotate.
How to play, step by step
- Tap Play for an endless game or Daily Challenge for today's seeded run.
- Drag each of the three tray pieces onto empty cells of the grid.
- Fill a whole row or column to clear it; several at once is worth more.
- When all three pieces are placed, a fresh set of three appears.
- Keep placing until none of the remaining pieces fits anywhere; that is Board Jammed.
- Use a revive once per run to keep going, or start One More.
Rules and scoring
- Placing a piece scores one point per cell.
- Each line cleared scores 10, with an extra 10 per line when two or more clear at once.
- Clearing on consecutive placements builds a combo worth 5 points per combo step; a placement with no clear resets it.
- Pieces are a weighted polyomino set, so large pieces appear less often than small ones.
- Daily Challenge uses a fixed seed per date so every player faces the same pieces; its best is tracked separately from endless.
Tips to score higher
- Keep one edge of the board clear as a landing strip for the 1x5 and 5x1 bars; they are the pieces that jam you.
- Build toward simultaneous row and column clears; two lines at once pay 40 instead of 20.
- Place the largest tray piece first while the board is emptiest, then fit the small ones around it.
- Avoid isolated single holes; only a 1x1 piece fills them and it is not guaranteed to appear.
- Chain clears every placement when you can. A combo of five adds 25 bonus points on each line.
- Use undo right after a placement that leaves a piece with no home; it is cheaper than a revive.
Modes and challenges
- Endless: random pieces, personal best saved on the device.
- Daily Challenge: same piece sequence for everyone that day with a separate daily best.
- Themes: skins and boards bought with coins or granted when your best crosses milestones.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate pieces?
No. Every piece is placed exactly as shown in the tray.
How does Daily Challenge differ from Play?
Daily uses a seed derived from the date so the piece order is identical for everyone, and its best score is stored per day. Endless draws pieces at random.
What happens on Board Jammed?
If you have a revive and have not used one this run, the game offers it. Otherwise the run ends, your score is compared with your best, and any theme milestones you crossed are granted.
Does a bigger piece score more?
Yes, a little: placement pays one point per cell. The real points come from clearing lines, especially multiple lines with a combo running.
